Endothelial cells are reported to be the major cellular source of IL-33 which is constitutively expressed along the vascular tree.How IL-33 is "constitutively" expressed, however, is still unknown.This study aims to find cytokines which up-and down-regulate IL-33 expression in primary normal arterial endothelial cells and compare the tissue distributions of IL-33.IL-33 expressions in endothelial cells and in various tissues from C57BL/6 mice were determined by real time PCR at the mRNA level and by ELISA at the protein level.Among 100 cytokines screened, IL-4, IL-13 and FGF-b (FGF-2, basic fibroblast growth factor) alone or in combination greatly promoted IL-33 expression, while acidic FGF (FGF-1) and FGF-9 failed to.
