Drug Susceptibility of Influenza Viruses Circulating in Russia

　　The aim was to assess the susceptibility of influenza A and B viruses circulating in Russia from 1990 to 2009 to the drugs available for the control of seasonal influenza.Strain susceptibility to rimantadine and arbidol was assessed in the cell based-ELISA.Susceptibility to NAIs was determined in two neuraminidase inhibition assays (chemiluminescent and fluorescent),RT-PCR/RFLP and RT-PCR.A partial sequence analysis of the M2 and NA genes was done on a subset of the viruses,which allowed detection of the known markers of drug resistance (i.e.,S31N in M2,H274Y in N 1).584 influenza A viruses (187 H 1N 1 and 397 H3N2) isolated in Russia during 2002-09 were tested for susceptibility to rimantadine.
