This presentation offers original findings about options for implementing collaborative sustainability plans with multiple stakeholders and partners. This information is highly relevant for any local government undertaking a Local Agenda 21, a low carbon strategy or a local sustainability plan.It also provides businesses with a means to conduct stakeholder relations and community engagement. For sustainability consultants, it provides current research and insights for work on community sustainability planning. The presentation will detail the key results of my research on the implementation of collaborative community sustainability strategies in Canada. These strategies are created by and for local communities and always involve numerous partners (including businesses, universities, governments and NGOs).The study specifically examines the governance structures put in place for implementation and the findings showed four models being used in Canada. The presentation will offer a focused look at four cases of implementation, each representing one of the models.By considering how these initiatives were structured (i.e., which organizations were involved, what processes were put in place, what committee (or other) structure did they use, how was progress monitored, etc.), and by considering what was achieved, lessons are offered on what approaches and features are most effective for achieving desired results.
