Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the Western world.Currently, docetaxel based chemotherapy has become the standard treatment for hormone-refractory prostate cancer (HRPC), which will ultimately prevail in most advanced stage patients.However, novel therapeutic agents are required because of limited survival benefits of docetaxel.Pseudolaric acid B (C23H28O8, PAB), a natural diterpene acid, has shown antitumor properties in several human cancers in vitro including leukemia, melanoma, liver, gastric, uterus, and breast carcinomas, but the effect of PAB on HRPC PC-3 cells has not been reported.And some structure similar compounds to PAB activate the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 pathways to produce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
