In this talk I will review part of Charles Eltons life and how he come to study lemming and populations cycles – and how this become the start of modern empirically based population biology.As part of the talk I cover population cycles,both in lemmings and hare-lynx,showing how population-intrinsic and extrinsic factors determine the between-year dynamics.
