Objectives Bipolar disorder is a devastating illness that is characterized by cycling periods of mania and depression.Conversing lines of evidences indicate that mood disorders,including bipolar disorder,affect abnormalities in signaling cascade mechanisms that lead to impairments in structural and functional synaptic plasticity as well as alterations in glutamatergic neurotransmission.In this study,we investigated whether mood stabilizers (lithium,valproic acid,carbamazepine,and lamotrigine) altered the expression of synaptic proteins and dendritic outgrowth in rat hippocampal neurons.
