  Accurate prediction and analysis of the stability of crystal lattices is fundamentally important in materials science; it holds the key to understanding the mechanism for material deformation and strength.Recent developments in computational physics have enabled first-principles calculations of peak stresses(i.e.,ideal strengths)in the stress-strain relations of a crystal lattice along specific deformation paths and the structural deformation modes leading to elastic instabilities.
