As a heterogeneous syndrome, PCOS is by definition a constellation of reproductive and metabolic abnormalities with no specific diagnostic test.Until now, three criteria have been proposed based on the key features (anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and PCO) by NIH, ESHRE/ARSM, and AEPCOS society respectively.However, there is still ongoing debate regarding the optimal diagnostic criteria for Chinese people because of the ethnic difference between Chinese and other ethnic groups, which brings diversity to prevalence and severity of some features, such as hyperandrogenism and obesity.Thus, in 2011 the Chinese diagnostic criteria of PCOS were developed by expert panel and finally approved by Ministry of Health P.R.China.
