This paper has considered a realistic application scenario of polar code, which is applied to a complex satellite communication environment. Normally during the simulation, it always considering the environment are through Gaussian noise channel. However, in realistic the impulsive noise channel may have to be considered too since there are always noise interference from complex surrounding environments. A performance comparison of polar code to Non-binary/binary turbo codes on such scenario has been made to indicate the tradeoffs between performance to complexity. It has shown that the polar code over-performed binary turbo code under certain scenarios. However, the non-binary turbo code still has the edge of overcome the interference from the such noise channel to obtain a decent performance at lower level of SNR.
