变态发育是多细胞生物对内外环境适应性的胚后发育，两栖动物只有经过变态发育才能到陆地生活。变态发育分别从形态变化、生理调控和分子机制作了研究，但关于变态发育分子机制的研究，主要集中在甲状腺激素诱导的直接反应基因，而对于调控两栖动物变态发育的级联基因网络还不清楚。
