The potato cyst nematodes (PCN), Globodera pallida and G.rostochiensis, are one of the most economically important pests of potato and are widely distribution in many potato growing regions around the word. They originate from South America where the greatest genetic diversity is found. The persistence of viable eggs within the cyst for decades makes them difficult to eradicate and they are difficult to detect at low densities.
