The application of polymeric dye on natural fabrics has been little investigated. One reason for this is that the vast majority of polymeric dyes is not available in a water-soluble form, and thus cannot be used to dye hydrophilic natural fabrics. The hydrophilic natural fabrics are usually dyed with reactive dye, acid dye and direct dye.But the utilization of dyes was only 50~70%, and huge quantity of polluted water was produced. In order to improve the utilization of dye during the process for dyeing of natural fabrics, in this paper, the water-soluble polymeric dye was obtained via the reaction ofpolyvinylamine as backbone and pyrazolone azo-dye containing chlorosulfonyl group as chromophore. The fixation of polymeric dye reached 99% and 97% on silk and cotton, respectively, and the dyeing effluent hardly includes dye and salt.
