Methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become a common cause of nosocomial infection globally.Recent years, there have been many outbreaks of hospital-acquired infection caused by MRSA worldwide, leading to an elevated mortality rate among ICU patients. Here we report an outbreak of MRSA in a Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in China.A collection of 20 clinical strains of MRSA from different sources was used in this study. The antibiotic susceptibility patterns, staphylococcal pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) typing, chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) typing and toxin genes of each isolate were determined.
