Distribution and occurrence of Archaea and methanogenic activity in a laboratory-scale fixed-bed anaerobic reactors treating wastewater were investigated and associated with reactor performances.The reactor was subjected to a three-step feeding strategy.The feeding procedure involved abrupt transition from molasses wastewater to manure wastewater,and then the same molasses wastewater.During the 1st stage,over 75% COD removal efficiency at an organic loading rate (OLR) of 6.67kg COD/ (m3d) was achieved with molasses feeding,and volume biogas production rate was 3.33 m3/ (m3d).Thereafter,the molasses wastewater was abruptly replaced with manure wastewater in the following mode:R1 (cattle manure)、R2 (pig manure) and R3 (chicken manure).COD removal percentages of 54.5,61.6 and 67.5 were achieved in R1,R2 and R3,respectively.
