The late 1990s saw the emergence of a new kind of optical glass fibre: photonic crystal fibre (PCF).With a two dimensional periodic array of microscopic hollow channels running along its entire fibre length, PCF is able to "corral" light within a central non-circular hollow or solid core [1].
