The various goal orientation patterns have important impact on childrens academic performance at school (Dweck, 1975;Fincham, Hokoda, & Sanders, 1989).Thus, it is very helpful to measure students goal orientation patterns for teachers to develop appropriate and effective instruction for them.Dwecks puzzle task was among one of the most widely known goal orientation measures for young children. It has been used by Dweck and her colleagues to assess young (4-7) childrens goal orientation styles (Burhans and Dweck 1995).To investigate whether the goal orientation pattern for children is stable over time Ziegert, Kistner, Castro, & Robertson (2001) developed two more age-appropriate tasks to measure older childrens (5th graders) helpless pattern, namely Jigsaw shape puzzle and block design.
