After-ripening, one of the dormancy breaking treatments, is often associated with changes in seed content and/or sensitivity of several plant hormones.Previous studies mainly in dicot species have shown antagonistic interaction between gibberellin (GA) and abscisic acid (ABA) in regulating dormancy and germination.To gain insights into the molecular features of this phenomenon and identify marker genes in wheat, this study compared changes in the expression of GA and ABA metabolic and signaling genes, and ABA level between dormant and after-ripened seeds in both dry and hydrated states.Our gene expression and ABA profile data showed that after-ripening does not affect ABA metabolism but leads to transcriptional repression of ABA signaling genes including PP2C, SnRK2, ABI5 and LPP2.
