The horse stopped Wall in Jiange county Sichuan Province has more than thousands of years as an ancient postal road.In this paper,mortar samples from the horse Wall were characterized by XRD、 TG、 FTIR、 TG-FTIR、 iodine-starch analysis and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation so as to a better understanding of its properties.The results showed that main inorganic ingredient of the samples was calcite,the main organic substance was glucose and the remaining sticky-rice was little due to its degradation after a long period of time.The lime was not transformed into calcite completely due to the wrap of the sticky rice mortar.The reason of the mortar could resist various damages coming from nature environment in such a long period of time is the combination effects of the sticky-rice mortar and calcium hydroxide and the resulting micro structure.
