Objectives:To evaluate the clinical significance of vacuum sealing drainage(VSD)therapy in oral and maxillofacial surgery patients with serious maxillofacial abscess, trauma wound,or flap necrosis. Also to summarize the advantages of VSD.Methods: We retrospectivelyanalyzed 28 patients who received VSD therapy in our ward since 2013,including 13 patients with trauma wound,8 patients with abscess and 7 patients suffering from postoperative flap necrosis. Then we compared their outcomes with 22 patients who received traditional therapy. Results: The VSD device was safe, and all of the 28 serious wounds effectively resolved after VSD therapy. The use of VSD significantly shortened time to healing and reduced the pain as compared with traditional treatment. Conclusion: VSD has more advantages than traditional therapy in the treatment of serious maxillofacial different wounds and lead to greater patient satisfaction.VSD has worthwhile applications in oral and maxillofacial clinical practice.
