Chaoshanese is a typical Southern Chinese population residing in east Guangdong Province.To investigate the origin of Chaoshanese and the paternal genetic affinity between Chaoshanese and other Chinese populations, the data of the six Y-chromosome short tandem repeat (Y-STR) loci (DYS19, DYS389I, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, and DYS393) of Chaoshan and Minnan populations from our previous studies were analyzed together with the data containing the same Y-STR loci from the southern Chinese Han, northern Chinese Han, Tibeto-Burman, Altaic, Hmong-Mien, Austro-Asiatic, and Daic populations.
