There is great interest currently in the regulation ability of some microorganisms, which can grow in extreme environments,such as high osmolality, high temperature and high pH.It has been known that a limited group of organic solutes so-called compatible solute plays an important role for the survival and growth of halophilic or halotolerant bacteria, which can grow in various osmolality conditions.These solutes can be controllably accumulated or released by cells responding to hyper-or hypoosmotic stress, respectively.Environmental microorganism of extremeness could produce or accumulate much anti-virus and immunity-advancing biological active substance.In 1985, a novel cyclic amino acid Ectoine was found as a main compatible solute.Ectoine is widely distributed in most species of bacteria and the role of Ectoine has been extensively studied with regard to not only the protection of cells from high external osmolarity but also the stabilization of biomolecules in cells against dehydration, heating, freezing, or drying.For example the cosmetic with Ectoine can help the skin regeneratd and anti aging.Also it can prevent the skin from the ultraviolet radiation in sun.
