Ironmaking and steelmaking slags are the main by-products of ironmaking and steelmaking process,and it has to be efficiently utilized as much as possible.In Japan,approximately 25 million ton of blast furnace slag and 10 million ton of converter slag are generated annually and most of them are recycled as cement and civil engineering materials.Since the demand of steelmaking slag as construction material is expected to decrease,the new future utilization of steelmaking slag in other fields by developing or adding the new functions of steelmaking slag should be considered to solve the issue of steelmaking slag utilization.In this presentation,the situation of slag generation and its recycling in Japan is presented and the researches on the new scheme of utilization of steelmaking slag for the improvement and recovery of coastal environment are discussed.
