Toluene permselective silica hybrid membranes were successfully prepared by using a non-aqueous sol-gel method.Uniform silica hybrid gel was synthesized from 1,3,5,7-tetramethylcyclotetraxiloxane (TMCTS) and 1,5-hexadiene (HD) in toluene solution.This gel was coated on a porous alumina substrate to obtain a thin silica hybrid membrane.The prepared membrane showed excellent toluene/nitrogen permeance ratio (671) with high toluene permeance (1.55× 10-6mol s-1 Pa-1 m-2) at 293K.This toluene permeation performance was stable for 180 min.
