Purpose: To prepare solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) coated with stearylamine and investigate the effect on the ocular retention. Methods: CyA solid lipid nanoparticles were prepared by an ultrasonic-emulsifieation technique.Particle size and zeta potentical were measured and preocular retention of SLN in rabbit eyes was tested using fluorescent SLN (F-SLN) Results: The average particle sizes of drug-free SLN and CyA loaded SLN were 66nm and 122nm separately.SLN possessed negative zeta potential whereas potential shifted to positive sign in SLN coated with stearylamine.SLN coated with stearylamine retained longer on the corneal and conjunctiva surfaces when compared with SLN without stearylamine Conclusion: SLN coated with stearylamine could be applied for ocular delivery
