Colostrum is the first natural food for newborn calves. It is rich in nutrients, antibodies and grouch factors. In comparison to normal cows milk the protein content is raised from 3.2% up to 14% and the mineral salts from 0.8% to 1.1%,whereas the lactose is decreased from 4.7% to 2.7% and the fat remains rather constantly.Because of its high content in immunoglobulins (Ig),mainly of subclass IgGl,colostrum is considered as having a physiological action for the newborn calve by imparting a passive immunity through a passage across the gastrointestinal tract.
