N-Aryl and alkyl substituted ureas have attracted many synthetic chemists to explore because of their important roles in different fields, including medicinal chemistry, host-guest chemistry, and anion sensors.Conventional synthetic approach involved hazardous and toxic reagents such as isocyanates, phosgene or CO.Alternative strategies utilizing transition metal catalyzed C-N bond-formation have been developed.Goldberg reactions adopted CuI as the reagent to promote the C-N coupling.Few examples of palladium catalyzed arylation of ureas with aryl halides have been reported.During the last decade, we have been interested in developing new approaches for symmetrical and unsymmetrical urea synthesis. In the presentation, the scopes of using amination of dimethyl dithiocarbonate, as well as using CuI catalyzed C-N and C-O coupling as tools for synthesis will be discussed.
