Wood-degrading fungi, especially staining fungi release pigments and cause color changes in inner parts of the wood, which lowers the quality of wood.Most chemical preservatives for wood are toxic to humans and mammals and have environmental risks.Effective and eco-friendly protection of woods is needed.Microorganism-based biological protection strategies are an attractive alternative to chemical treatments because of their low impact on environment and human health.The genus Altemaria is widely distributed in nature and stored wood is often stained by the growth of Altemaria.
