The Pearl River Delta(PRD)region has experienced remarkable economic development and urbanization in the past two decades.Haze pollution became more serious in the last five years and becomes a very.concemed regional air pollution problem. In this paper, the online Weather Research and Forecasting and chemistry(WRF/CHEM)model,coupled with urban canopy OACM)and biogenic-emission models,is used to explore impacts of urban expansion on secondary organic aerosols formation. Two scenarios of urban maps are used in WRF/CHEM to represent early 1990s(pre-urbanization)and current urban distribution in the PRD.Month-long simulation results using the above land-use scenarios for March 2001 show The relative vailation of SOA from anthropogenic VOC emissions have two inereased centers which locate in Zhongshan and northern Guangzhou.about 10-15%increase for Aitken mode and 9%for Accumulate mode.Shenzhen and northern Hong Kong are the centers for decrease, around 15%decrease for Aitken mode and 6%for Accumulate mode. The influences of urbanization on SOA formation due to different precursors are different. The variations of Aikanes and Aromatics on SOA formation ale increase, around 8%and 14%respectively,while the variation of Alkenes on SOA formation is decrease about 8%.
