This study analyzed the epidemiology of sheep and goat pox in China from 2000 to 2013.Statistical analysis of those years showed a total of 1679 new sheep and goat pox outbreaks, with 2337 outbreaks in total.A total of 198034 infections were recorded during this period, with 39260 sheep or goats dead or destroyed.Outbreaks have occurred in most provinces of China, and the greatest numbers of outbreaks over the 14year period were in Gansu,Inner Mongolia and Ningxia with 545,415 and 412,respectively.Most sheep and goat pox outbreaks occur in the spring and winter, mainly in September to March seven months in every year. From past trends,we believe the next 2-4years will likely have severe sheep and goat pox outbreaks and reach a new peak;these events will likely result in serious economic impacts.
