The nature of teaching profession is quite practical and that is why the practicum is vital part of any teacher education programme.When the student teachers have learnt their theoretical knowledge about teaching profession they need a real field to apply it and the practicum provides them that field.It also provides them an opportunity to decide whether or not the teaching profession is suitable for them as a career of life.The practicum is also an important phase in the sense that during this phase the students change their role from a student to a professional teacher.Practicum also provides an opportunity to the students whether or not the teaching profession is suitable for them as a future career.The paper analyses the practicum programmes offered in Chinese teacher education institutions as compared to worlds other countries practicum programmes.Researcher explored that how we can improve our practicum programme comparing it with some developed and developing countries of the world.Ten universities of the world from different countries are analyzed with objective to compare Chinese practicum.There emerged two basic issues from the study; the time specified for practicum and mode of practicum.The researcher identified that the time allocated to practicum experiences in China is too short and the mode of practicum applied is outdated.The time should be expanded for practicum experiences and it should be integrated throughout the programme.The other countries integrate this programme into the whole programme ramifying it into different stages,which is also recommended for the Chinese teacher education institutions.
