Protein phosphatase typel (PP1), together with protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), is a major serine/threonine protein phosphatase (PP).PP1 activity was markedly elevated in rat ascites hepatomas, and PP1 catalytic subunit (PP1 C) protein accumulated in the non-nuclear membrane fraction and in nuclei. The increase in PP 1C mRNA expression seen in rat ascites hepatomas cells was due to the enhanced promoter activity of PP 1C gene.Amplification of PP1C gene was observed in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC), knock down of PP 1C by siRNA suppressed OSCC cell growth. These results suggested a positive involvement of PP1 in regulating cell growth of tumor cells; however, the mechanism underlying this role of PP1 remained unknown.
