　　Background: The efficacy and safety of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) versus invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF) remains controversial.We systematically reviewed the literature to investigate whether NIV use reduced mortality compared to IMV in patients with AECOPD and ARF.
