During the Chinese 6th Arctic expedition CHINARE2012 from July to September 2014,Marine boundary layer air and seawater samples taken from East China Sea to the Arctic were analyzed to compare the occurrence, distribution, and fate of the hexachlorobenzene(HCBz)and Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs).The concentration of HCBz in the atmosphere ranged from 23.2 to 317.8 pg/m3 and from 13.0 to 49.6 pg/l in seawater. The sum of PAHs(ΣPAHs)in the atmosphere ranged from 0.67 to 12.61 pg/m3and from 2.75 to 36.2 pg/l in seawater. The highest concentrations of both HCBz and PAHs were observed in East Asian air samples suggesting the Asian continent as source of these compounds in the Arctic environment, while for seawater samples, high concentrations were found in both eastern Asian and the Arctic. The air seawater exchange for these compounds were also studied to check their net transport.
