According to the annual report of the Department of Health in Taiwan, there were 1,424 newly diagnosis endometrial cancer and the incidence rate increased to 9.75 per 100,000 in 2008.The median age of endometrial cancer patients is 52-54 years. However, more than 30% of cases occur in premenopausal patients and 10% in women under the age of 40 years. Therefore, ovarian preservation should be an important issue that requires for consideration especially in young women. The incidence of ovarian metastases in women with early stage endometrial carcinoma has been reported to be approximately 5%.BSO is recommended routinely irrespective of the patients age.The standard surgical treatment might almost perfectly eradicate the possibility of residual cancer, however the surgical castration of young women results in surgical menopause, which causes climacteric symptoms, especially, hot flushes, sleep disorders, and long-term effects, which include its deleterious impact on cardiovascular and bone health and places patients at risk for the long- term sequelae of estrogen deprivation. The present study reviewed literatures of PubMed and the data of Taipei Veterans General Hospital in women who have undergone ovary-preserving surgeries, to determine the impact of ovarian preservation on the outcome of endometrial carcinoma.
