Fenton-like and Photo-Fenton-like Performance of FeVO4

It was reported that many compounds VO cores-containing complexes could catalyze theoxidation of various organic compounds by addition of H202 through Fenton-like pathw-ays. Moreover,vanadium(V)could combine with iron ion to form the rather stablesol-id substances in acidic condition. Therefore,there is a possibilitythat the copoun-dscontaining iron ion and V anion may be employed as the two-way Fenton-like hetero-geneous catalysts. A simple Fe-V compound,FeV04,was selected as the first exampleof the potentialtwo-way Fenton-like catalysts in our project. This contribution wasmainly focused onthree aspects:(i) the catalytic performance of FeV04,(ii) stabil-ity of FeV04,(iii) thecatalytic mechanism of FeV04. In addition,Orange II was sel-ectedas a modelcontaminant. The experimental results showed that FeV04 could effectivelycatalyze H202 to generate active hydroxyl radical -OH both in dark and underillumination. Therefore,it was employed as a heterogeneous Fenton-like andphoto-Fenton-like catalyst in the present contribution. Compared with theconventional heterogene-ous Fenton-like catalysts,α-Fe203,Fe304 and γ-Fe00H,FeV04 possessed a much high-er catalytic activity. The high catalytic activity possiblyinvolved in a special tw-o-way Fenton-like mechanism,that is,the activation of H202by both Fe(Ⅲ) and V(V)inFeV04,and in a semiconductor photocatalysis towardsthe activation of H202 and reduct-ion ofFe(Ⅱ) to Fe(Ⅱ),as shown as the followingfigure。
