There is growing controversy regarding the clinical significance of mild or GOLD stage ⅠCOPD and whether or not these patients should receive treatment.Despite having reasonably well preserved spirometry, mild COPD patients have considerable physiological abnormalities that often mimic their more severe COPD counterparts.For example, there is compelling evidence of airway inflammation, loss of peripheral airways, and abnormal pulmonary gas exchange in mild COPD.
