The Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, Sousa chinensis, is the only Grade I National Key Protected marine cetacean in China and classified as "Near Threatened" status by IUCN due to the proximity of much of their habitat to areas of intensive anthropogenic activities. The coast waters of Fujian Province is a main distribution area of S. chinensis, although most information available for this species is in Xiamen Bay.
