Background, Motivation and Objective This work was conducted in order to demonstrate the feasibility of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to treat extracorporally the placental unit using a toroidal-shaped transducer with possible application to the treatment of the twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome using a monkey pregnant model.
