The low temperature ion sulfuration technology was utilized to treat the 52100 steel in order to improve its wear-resistance and anti-scuffing property.A stable sulfide solid lubrication layer of FeS was produced on the surface.Three different extreme pressure-anti wear additives were also used to test their synergistic effect with FeS layer.The anti-scuffing property was investigated by a ball-on-disk sliding friction and wear tester,SEM and XRD were employed to analyze the morphologies of the origional and scuffing surface of sulfide layer,as well as the surfaces phase structure.AES was used to detect the elements variation along depth of the sulfide layer and XPS was adopted to identify the valence state of boundary lubrication film of scuffing surface.
