TiN has been paid much attention as cutting tools due to without rare metal,high hardness,high abrasion resistance and good thermal stability.A large amount of metallic additive is usually added to improve the sinterability and toughness of TiN; however,hardness is consequently decreased.In order to increase both hardness and toughness,a uniform dispersion of a tiny amount of metallic additive is a promising approach.In this study,Ni nanoparticles were precipitated on TiN powders by rotary chemical vapor deposition(RCVD),and Ni precipitated TiN powders were sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPS),and the effect of Ni precipitation on sinterabilities,mechanical properties and microstructures was investigated.The effects of O2 gas partial pressure(PO2)in RCVD and sintering temperature in SPS(TS)on the crystalline phase,relative density(Dr),Vickers hardness(HV)and fracture toughness(KIC)of TiN-Ni(CVD)sintered bodies were investigated.
