While the trends of many cancer incidence rates have been declining, skin cancer has been increasing over the past decade in the United States.Skin cancer is more common among Caucasians and the risk of skin cancer increases as age increases.This current study analyzed the data from the 2005 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) in the United States to evaluate the correlates of skin cancer among Caucasians aged 65 years or older.The NHIS is a multi-purpose health survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is the principal source of information on the health of the civilian, noninstitutionalized, household population of the United States.The NHIS has been conducted annually since its beginning in 1957.In 2005, a set of supplementary questions were added to the NHIS questionnaire to inquire information related to cancer.The cases of skin cancer were defined by self-reporting ever being diagnosed by a medical doctor to have non-melanoma or any other kind skin cancer.
