Long-term exposure to outdoor air pollution has been associated with increased cardiopulmonary mortality in developed countries, but there exists no prospective evidence in China.We examined the association between long-term exposure to air pollution and mortality in a nationally representative cohort of 70,947 middle-aged men and women in 31 Chinese cities of 16 provinces.
