  The proper assessment of seismic hazard of the Wellington region in New Zealand is critical due to its reckoned as the main contributor to the earthquake hazard in the North Island. The Wellington region lies at the southern tip of the North Island which has a population of 513,900 and formalize about 10.8% of the total population of the country;covers an area of 8,049 square kilometers, and accommodated many devastating earthquakes involving 1460 Mw 7.5 Wellington and 1855 Mw 8.2 Wairarapa earthquake. The primary objective study is to use the past seismic information as well as the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote sensing (RS) approaches to evaluate and assess the areas of the seismic hazard in Wellington and surrounded regions and to examine whether the catalog of these recorded earthquakes exhibits some deterministic array or whether it merely characterizes a series of random events. For this purpose, many important factors controlling the evaluation of the seismic hazard in the study area were analyzed. For instance, the epicenters of the past earthquakes, the digital elevation model and the slope. We adopted the about 1017 earthquakes which recorded by USGS in Wellington and Marlborough area between 1900 and 2010 which has local magnitudes varies between 3.5 and 9.5. The general procedure starts by using the digital elevation model of Aster satellite data (Remote sensing);defining the rank of the parameters, establishing maps and layers were accomplished by the GIS technique. The initial result of the study regarding a potential map of the earthquake shows different classes: very low, low, moderate and high. One important issue of study the map of seismic hazard is used by earthquake and civil engineers in designing large buildings and infrastructure. Numerous seismic deformation studies around the world and in New Zealand were carried out, but little attention in assessing the seismic hazard catalog in New Zealand so far, especially this model deals with different parameters which used in establishing the map of the seismic hazard. The innovation of this research is to use different platforms, i.e., RS, GIS and different types of information, for instance, spatial and temporal to evaluate the seismic hazard and leading to feasible and real model.
