The present paper discussed the effects of ozonation on the trihalomethane formation potential(THMFP) and trihalomethane species in bromide-containing water with humic acid as precursor of disinfection byproducts.The results demonstrated that,higher concentration of bromide ions contributed to a higher THMFP and higher proportion of brominated trihalomethanes(THMs-Br),but in the ozonation process,bromide ions would be oxidized to bromate in bromide-containing water,which reduced the bromine substitution in THM speciation.The intermediate product ofhumic acid formed by oxidation was quite complex,causing the diversity of precursors of disinfection byproducts,only in the condition of higher ozone dosage,could reduce the total THMFP,however,the bromate byproducts formed in the oxidation process,which was considered to be a potential human carcinogen,restricted the application of ozone oxidation process in drinking water.However,the addition of ammonia to the bromide-containing water during ozonation could reduce the THMFP and the yield ofbromate significantly.
