本研究把植物园对当地土著植物的引种、栽培和保护称为"近地保护(near site conserva-tion)",并以植物的适应性和是否正常生长发育或(和)开花结果,即"从种子到种子"的全过程作为评价保护有效性的标准.通过对一些国家重点保护植物在不同植物园的"迁地保护(ex situ conservation)"与"近地保护"的有效性进行比较,结果表明,"近地保护"的有效性远远高于"迁地保护",其主要原因是气候与生境是否相似,尤其对于那些生态幅狭窄和对生境要求特殊的种类而言.由此,作者建议,若以保护为主要目的,植物园应特别注重当地区系成分的引种、栽培和保护,以此组成一个国家的植物园保护网络,使我国的植物多能得到更有效的保护.
