Lophopidae, a small Fulgormorpha family with around 140 species dispatched in 39 recent genera, is found in the tropics, with one genus in the north of South America, 2 genera in Africa and the other genera distributed from India to the Samoa Ishnds.Based on a phylogenetic analysis (Soulier-Perkins 2001) and geotectonic data available at the time, a historical biogeographic scenario was presented for the Lophopidae family.Three hypotheses on the origin and time of emergence of the family were discussed (Soulier-Perkins 2000) and the most parsimonious one was selected.
