Aim The bone marrow microenvironment provides leukaemia cells with a relative sanctuary from cytotoxic drugs and forms minimal residual diseases (MRD) and chemoresistance.The present niche models concentrate on two-dimensional (2D) co-culture system in vitro which does not imitate the in vivo environment, while the 3D scaffolds own the superiority.Osteopontin (OPN) secreted by bone marrow osteoblasts, may be participated in protecting leukaemia cells from apoptosis by binding to its receptor ανβ3 which can be expressed on the surface of leukaemia cell line MV4-11, but the relationship between OPN/ανβ3 axis and leukaemia cells is unknown.
