45S rDNA evolution in a synthetic amphiploid Aegilops sharonensis x Ae.umbellulata

  We used synthetic amphiploid Aegilops sharonensis x Ae.umbellulata as a model system to study genetical and epigenetical changes associated with differential activity of 45S rRNA genes in allopolyploids.The suppression of NOR (nucleolar organizing region) loci inherited from Ae.sharonensis was revealed in the amphiploid by AgNOR-staining.As the following PCR and restriction analysis showed,all studied S2,S3 amphiploid plants demonstrate an additive pattern of ETS (external transcribed spacer) sequences of rDNA compared to respective parental species.
