Cognitive scientists often model text comprehension as the construction of a multilevel mental representation by the reader.In order to successively perceive and comprehend the information in a text,the reader must identify the main topics and their interrelations.According to this view of text comprehension,the processing of topic relevant information plays a critical role in the construction of a mental representation.However,not all readers are sensitive to the topics.A considerable of studies have demonstrated that readers differed in their sensitivities to topic relevant information while reading.Task demands and signaling devices are two important factors that affect topic structure representation and recall of readers.
