　　Making valuable chemicals out of biomass and/or its derivatives to replace petroleum-derived products is one promising approach toward energy and environmental sustainability.In this presentation,ionic liquid-enabled catalytic conversion and adsorption-based separation for product recovery will be discussed.Production of hydroxymethylfurfural (C6) and furfural (C5)-type products from sugars and cellulose is used as a primary application example.
